Waste becomes food and soil.

1.05 billion tonnes of food is wasted every year. Soils degrade, fertiliser and feed costs rise. The answer is in the waste.

BSFH backs operators turning organic waste into soil inputs and feed, through two companies that already produce and sell: AgriGrub in the UK, and Marula Proteen in Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya. Both run on the same insect, the black soldier fly.

AgriGrub was founded in 2018 and Marula in 2017. I co-founded BSFH with James Scott in 2024 and run the company; together, we help both businesses expand capacity as demand grows. The first wave of this industry raised on the idea and built plants before the demand was proven.

We back operators that already produce and already sell, as a minority investor with a seat on the board.

Marula co-produces Kuzaya, a feature documentary on how the health of the soil shapes our food and our health, filmed at nine locations in Kenya and Rwanda and out in 2026. Tommie Hooft, Marula's CEO, is executive producer, and BSFH backs the film. Watch the trailer.
